GB 1840 QV 2d Blue "PAIR" Plate 1 MAROON MX's Queen Victoria Pl.1 cancelled by 2 strikes of the very rare MAROON MALTESE CROSS. Big margins all round and 2 good strikes of this very scarce cross, listed in Alcock and Holland. The usual town of origin is Epsom, although other sources of maroon are known, mostly from Ireland. Much rarer than magenta. Minor creasing is not visible from the front. This is the only example of maroon we have recorded on the 1840 2d. An important item. With PEGB Certificate. GB 1841 QV 1d Reds "TJ" Pl. 33 & "SL" Pl. 19 Both stamps with 4 good - huge margins on separate entire cancelled by the very scarce "SQUAT" Maltese Cross of Birmingham. These were hardly every struck clear enough to be distinguishable as the "SQUAT" cross - listed & illustrated in "Alcock and Holland Maltese Cross cancellations of Great Britain and Ireland". It is virtually impossible to obtain this cross with an adequate certificate. Both of these have clear BPA certificate (2002). An extremely rare opportunity. (pt) | £975.00 |  |

GB 1844 & 1843 VOID CENTRE Covers of KINROSS The Very Rare "VOID CENTRE" cross of Kinross. Two entires - one bearing "EC - ED" pl. 24 close to enormous margins, the other "LK" pl. 37 close to large margins, both entires with lovely clear strikes of this very rare Maltese Cross, listed in "Alcock and Holland Maltese Cross cancellations of Great Britain and Ireland".
