2d BLUE PLATE 1 Added:

GB 1840 2d Plate 1 V. RARE Violet Blue Shade VERY RARE VIOLET BLUE SHADE (SG DS2). Fine 4 margin example with wonderful deep colour of this extremely rare stamp. Only a handful are known, and this is without doubt one of the rarest of ALL VICTORIAN STAMPS. Cat £1500 4 years ago which is ridiculous – the example in the Wills sale (1989) fetched approx. £1800, and recently another example sold in a London auction for £1800 HAMMER PRICE. We have heard that the price in the new Specialised Catalogue (due out in a couple of months) will be raised from £1500 to £4000, which is still too cheap!!! With Brandon Certificate. (pt)

GB 1840 QV 2d Blue "PAIR" Plate 1 MAROON MX's Queen Victoria Pl.1 cancelled by 2 strikes of the very rare MAROON MALTESE CROSS. Big margins all round and 2 good strikes of this very scarce cross, listed in Alcock and Holland. The usual town of origin is Epsom, although other sources of maroon are known, mostly from Ireland. Much rarer than magenta. Minor creasing is not visible from the front. This is the only example of maroon we have recorded on the 1840 2d. An important item. With PEGB Certificate. (pt)
