ILL-FATED POLISH LINER THE S.S.PILSUDSKI 1939 KG6 OFFICIALLY SEALED Tape, 1939 Cover bearing 2 1/2d Dark Blue "By Censor" containing a letter from a Polish Sailor to his wife in SANOK, Poland posted at INVERNESS 1 Sep 1939. The start of the war ended the service to Poland and the letter after censorship was returned to sender at his accomodation at GATESHEAD. It was foundat the Post Office and sealed before delivery. Unfortunately the ship had sailed for Australia before the letter could be re-directed. The S.S.Pilsudski hit a GERMAN mine off the SUFFOLK COAST on 29 Sep 1939 and was totally lost.
