GB 1840 2d Plate 1 V. RARE Violet Blue Shade VERY RARE VIOLET BLUE SHADE (SG DS2). Fine 4 margin example with wonderful deep colour of this extremely rare stamp. Only a handful are known, and this is without doubt one of the rarest of ALL VICTORIAN STAMPS. Cat £1500 4 years ago which is ridiculous – the example in the Wills sale (1989) fetched approx. £1800, and recently another example sold in a London auction for £1800 HAMMER PRICE. We have heard that the price in the new Specialised Catalogue (due out in a couple of months) will be raised from £1500 to £4000, which is still too cheap!!! With Brandon Certificate.
