TienAnMen Square/Peace
Message from Grace Davies grace
I have a philatelic collection on the theme of Peace and in the section on places by that name I include Tien An Men - "Gate of Heavenly Peace".
I have most of the relevant stamps of the Republic of China, quite a few other regional issues, postcards and one or two covers. But I would like something more interesting.
Is there a postmark with the Gate, for example? Does anyone know why the gate has that name? Does anyone know the meaning of or reason for the totem-like monument or statue in front of the gate?
This is the first time I have ever written on a Web page, on any subject! I know no-one in the UK who collects on the theme of Peace so am a bit isolated - philatelically. I would be delighted to have a response.
Grace
