 JapaneseReference 10/150.An attractive large lacquered box, probably a ryoshibako, decorated in hiramakie, takamakie, kirigame, nashiji and fundame with a scene of fishermen off a coast, with trees and birds in flight, the sails of larger ships approaching from a distance, the underside of the lid decorated with five cranes amongst various grasses. 41 cms x 31.7 cms x 13.8 cms high. 19th century.
