A fine pair of rank badges for a military official of the first to third ranks, unusually embroidered almost entirely in silver wire (with just a few coloured threads for the facial details) on a figured green silk background. Choson dynasty, 19th century. Each approx. 19 cm x 23 cms.

Pairs of Korean military rank badges are much scarcer than the civilian equivalents, and even single examples embroidered in precious metals (the effect on a sunny day must have been dazzling) are scarce. This pair must be considered a very unusual survival.
